Oh. They were sharing their favorite parts of their territories? Should she have said something? The apprentice glanced at the two warriors and decided to go for it. She was starting to feel more and more comfortable around both of them. They were both being much kinder to her than she had ever expected anyone, particularly cats from other clans, to be. "My favorite part of the RiverClan territory is... well, the river," she mewed, giving a small smile as she thought about sitting next to the body of water. "The sound it makes is so relaxing."

    (OOC: D'aww, I think so too. c: )

Emberpaw cocked her head to the side. Those were two very different sounds, or at least they were to a cat that heard a lot of water-related sounds. However, being the wonderful bundle of social awkwardness she was, she simply nodded along with Nightwing. "Yeah, rain's a good one too." She murmured quietly.

The apprentice shuffled a bit and opened her dull grey eyes. They stared into the depths of the cold river for a while as she just thought. Thought about how she was a wreck of an apprentice, of a cat, even. She let out a sad sigh and glanced up, across the river. Suddenly, her fur fluffed up again and her eyes widened. There was another cat here! How had she missed that? She hadn't thought she was that distressed. Either way, she stared across at the other cat, not sure what to do. She could run--in fact, that was what she was most likely to do. But she was at the moment rather frozen in place. Plus, it seemed a little awkward to just run away after staring at someone.

Emberpaw watched, eyes wide, as the other cat swam over and came out of the river right next to her. She jumped to her paws and faced the warrior, her ginger fur still bristling. All she could do was stare at the other cat. Why had she come over here? To simply talk to her? Why? Emberpaw didn't recognize her...
The apprentice opened and closed her mouth several times, trying to say something. Finally, she found her voice. "E-Emberpaw," she mewed, her voice sort of a croak. Her grey eyes studied Otterfur warily, unsure of her intentions.

The apprentice watched, speechless, as the warrior disappeared into the water. She must be really hungry, to go all the way into the freezing water, Emberpaw mused. She stepped back from the sopping wet cat as she reappeared at the surface. As she was offered to share, she studied the fish. She was very wary, a cat she had never met before offering her food? It sounded potentially dangerous. But, she couldn't deny that she was hungry, as she hadn't eaten since the night before. And she had just watched the fish get caught, she doubted Otterfur could have done anything to it. Plus, it looked really tasty.
Blinking, she looked up at the warrior and nodded. "Sure, if you don't mind," she mewed a quiet voice.

(OOC: Not a big deal! C: I'm just glad you did reply! XD )

Emberpaw blinked down at the young tom. It felt awkward, being so much bigger than someone. She forced herself to give him a small smile, worried it would intimidate him if she didn't. "Hello," she murmured in reply. He was shy? She hadn't been expecting that. Most kits were so rambunctious and hyper, it was pretty rare to find one that was shy. Then, she realized she should introduce herself. She had learned that that was the polite way to begin a conversation with someone you've never talked to. "I'm Emberpaw."

Honeyrose nodded in agreement, "Yes." She glanced down at Emberpaw and purred in amusement, "You RiverClanners are lucky from that point of view," she mewed.

Emberpaw gave an honest smile this time, and even let out the lightest of purrs. It had been a long time since she had last found something funny. Wait, have I ever found anything funny before? She asked herself silently and thought back. No, she didn't believe she had.
Not wanting to think such depressing thoughts anymore, she shook her head clear of them and focused on what was happening in the here and now. "I guess we are," she mewed.

The pale ginger she-cat nodded her thanks and bent down to inspect the fish further. She gave it a quick sniff before deciding that yes, it was fine. The proof was the other cat taking a bite. Emberpaw took a small bite and found the flavor to be exquisite. She had never eaten carp before, but she was glad to now be experiencing it. She took a few more bites before her grey eyes looked up to check on Otterfur. Seeing the other cat not eating much of her own catch, the apprentice raised her head and licked the stray bits of fish from around her mouth. "Aren't you going to have some more?" She asked, feeling a tad more relaxed.

Emberpaw nodded and turned back to the prey once the warrior had taken another bite. She ate a bit more, but had to stop after only a few bites. She felt full. It was hard for her to eat much while feeling so anxious. But, at least she had eaten something. Most times she would just...not. Hence her skinny frame.
Licking her ginger maw, she stepped away from the fish and blinked at the ground. "Thank you," she murmured, unable to meet the she-cat's gaze.

The apprentice flinched as she was informed that she was late. She lowered her ears and stared up at the warrior with wide eyes. "S-s-sorry," she murmured, having a hard time getting words to come out in anything but a squeak. While currently rather frightened and feeling the urge to just cry, she had the time to find it ridiculous that she was expected to get up so early. However, she would not complain.
When asked if she wanted to explore the territory first, the ginger cat nodded feebly. She had never yet been out of the camp. Hell, she was barely out of the nursery. As a kit, she had very, very rarely left the warmth of the den. But here she was now, forced into the cold harsh world. Not that she hadn't already dealt with hardships. It was just a bit easier when you have such a warm, comforting place to return to at the end of the day.

Wow, so this warrior was pretty direct with what she would think of her apprentice. She was also rather gruff. This worried Emberpaw, she had hoped to receive a kinder, more nurturing mentor, but instead she got one that appeared as though she was going to be very tough to please, even if she were a normal apprentice. Why had this warrior been chosen for her? This was the question that Emberpaw would likely find herself asking for much of her apprenticeship.
The ginger she-cat did not know what pace she could or could not keep up, nor did she know what Aquafrost's speed was. But, in an attempt to be tough, and not to be a disappointment already, she knew what she had to do.
"Your pace, I guess," she murmured, her shoulder fur still bristling. Her ears warmed under the warrior's stern gaze. Emberpaw hated being the center of attention, even if only to one cat. She felt her heartbeat increase, and took a deep, calming breath to try to fix it.

Emberpaw blinked in surprise. What had just happened? Why had she gone to sleep so suddenly? Curious... She mused. However, she felt herself relax more. With the other cat asleep, it was basically like she was left alone. Though she wouldn't be able to relax fully, who knew if the warrior was really sleeping. She could just be waiting for the apprentice to turn her back and then strike.
Emberpaw didn't really believe this, after all, the cat had just shared her catch with her. She shook the crazy thoughts from her head and went back to the river. She lay down next to it again and listened to is slip past once more. However, her body was tense, still being in the presence of another.

The apprentice stared back up at the warrior as Aquafrost gave her a long look, though she didn't meet the other's eyes. Seeing the warrior suddenly turn and exit, Emberpaw nodded and followed. She could see already that Aquafrost's pace was going to be difficult to keep up with. Perhaps over time, though, the apprentice would be able to keep up the pace. Once she built up some muscle. She had the stature of a quick-footed cat, just none of the experience.
Emberpaw gazed around, grey eyes wide, as the trotted across the territory. It was even more wonderful than she had thought it would be. She gave a little smile, just to herself, until she realized that she was falling behind. With a gasp, the ginger picked up the pace and charged straight ahead, running to catch up with her mentor. It didn't take long, but she found herself panting as she once again fell into step behind the warrior.
As Aquafrost began to talk, the apprentice perked up her ears and listened intently. What lands were these that she wasn't allowed to cross? Obviously they belonged to another clan, but which one? Emberpaw took a quick sniff before scrunching her nose at the harsh scent. Then seeing her mentor pause and continue talking, she stopped. The best? That was... going to be difficult. This must have been the toughest mentor in the entire clan! Why has she been given to me? Emberpaw wondered again, a hint of worry now showing in her eyes. But, she nodded, showing she understood.

Ah, ShadowClan. That explained the rank stench. She had learned much of what her mentor was telling her about them back in the nursery, that they were cruel, conniving little sneaks and that you should never trust them. Not that she had ever planned to.
Hearing the bit about fear and worry, Emberpaw snapped back to attention. Aquafrost's words were becoming more and more daunting. Obviously, she did not understand what it was like to have an anxiety disorder. Then again, most cats didn't. But the apprentice realized that, even having the disorder, her mentor would not go easy on her fears. Especially hearing that she did not want to fix her.
The bit about her mother, though, almost threw Emberpaw over the edge. Her mother and father had both left her not long ago, and it still hurt her. They had told her that they loved her, but it turned out to be untrue when they left the clan without even saying a word. As Aquafrost continued to mention her OCD and how it irritated everyone, the apprentice couldn't help but let out a small sob. She wasn't often one for crying, but this warrior seemed to be hitting every nerve in one go.

Emberpaw stared at the ground, her eyes now sore. She didn't want to think about these things, all of these things, these terrible things. She preferred to crawl away and forget about them. Why couldn't she be normal and simple minded like the other apprentices? Why did she get all of this sh*t? And why was her mentor just poking her with a stick to bring it all back up?
She listened in silence as Aquafrost spoke, explaining herself. The apprentice didn't see how facing them would make them better, thinking about them seemed to make them worse! However, she didn't want to be a burden and an annoyance to her clan... She sniffled and looked back up. Seeing her mentor start to trot away, she followed at her heels. She would think on the warrior's words, certainly. The more she thought about them already, the more she understood. Maybe... just maybe the older cat was right? Nonetheless, Emberpaw followed her and found her mind drift from the painful topic to the curiosity of where they were going next.

The apprentice's purr continued as she turned to face Nightwing. "They're really quite delicious!" She told him. She had never understood the other clans' aversion to fish. Had they even ever tried them? She shook her head, finding herself rather amused with them.

(OOC: Short post, sorry! XD; )

Emberpaw's whiskers twitched with amusement. "I guess it's not for everyone, then," she decided. Whatever, she loved fish. If no other clans did, it was all the better for RiverClan. More prey for us! She shrugged her orange shoulders and decided to change the subject again. "What about WindClan?" She asked Nightwing. "What's it like there?"

The apprentice listened to Nightwing's answer silently, but for a small gasp at the mention of a cat surviving a fall down the gorge. She had heard how deep the gorge was, and how it was next to impossible to live if you happened to fall. The thought of someone surviving something that awful... She was pretty sure that she would much rather die from the fall than survive. Living after something like that had to be excruciatingly painful.
The rest of the WindClan warrior's answer was quite lovely though. His way with words interested Emberpaw. She wished she was so eloquent. She blinked when he had finished and gave him a smile. "It sounds lovely," she admitted. It almost made her want to visit the territory and see it for herself.

Emberpaw was surprised by the question, but nodded. Though she didn't want to be in the tom's position, she certainly wouldn't turn down hearing the story of his survival. "I would, actually. I didn't think it was possible to survive such a drop, to be honest." She mewed, her grey eyes glinting with curiosity and interest.

Emberpaw lay still, her grey eyes the only thing moving as they watched the water and the fish within. She gave a small start, however, when she heard a quiet movement behind her. Sitting up and turning her head, she saw that Otterfur had just twitched her leg. The apprentice relaxed, but then realized that the warrior was snarling. Frowning, Emberpaw cocked her head to the side. Was Otterfur having a nightmare? That had to be it. But what was it about? Naturally, it was none of her business, but she couldn't help but be curious.
